Small Town America Weekend

The Small Town America Weekend is entering into its fourth year in Mt. Sterling.  This two day event will be on the weekend of August 21st and 22nd this year and offers something for the entire family.  Start off with the 5K Race/Walk on Saturday morning at Old Silo Golf Course.  Afterward, take a trip down memory lane at the Special Olympics Car Show, participate in the Cornhole Tournament or shop at the Arts and Crafts Festival at the Courthouse Square.  The Small Town America Talent Showcase is fun entertainment and gives one lucky winner a chance to record their first hit in a professional recording studio!

On Sunday it’s the Fly-In Breakfast at the Mt. Sterling Airport where visitors can enjoy a delicious breakfast and get up close to antique airplanes or take a airplane ride.  Plus a candy drop for the kids!

The Small Town America Weekend began with a song written by Mt. Sterling native, Jeff Vice called “Small Town America” in 2007 about growing up in a small town.  A portion of the song and music video focuses on the last local football program at the High School in 1976.  The music video shows scenes of the Old Trojan High School in downtown Mt. Sterling, which has long been vacant and in deteriorating condition.   It’s a touching tribute to Mt. Sterling from a talented songwriter about his hometown.   Watch the video online Small Town America :: Click Here
